GM just announced that 19,000 of its hourly workers in the United States chose to accept buyout offers with various options. The company will replace those leaving with fewer, lower paid workers. Struggling against a dropping demand for larger vehicles, will the thirst for green vehicles like the Chevy Volt fill the void?

Fresh from winning American Idol and yet to cut a full album, David Cook’s already scored 942,000 digital downloads according to Nielsen SoundScan. This is fairly remarkable as the numbers are from the week ending Sunday, meaning Cook averaged six figure downloads a day. Not bad at all.

Is it true that Apple has bought software for that enables handwritten input for the iPhone? Rumors have been circulating about a handwritten code that was supposedly purchased by Apple for the iPhone OS 2.0.

Recently Google unveiled its near finished software that will eventually run various cell phones throughout many different manufacturers’ mobile technology. With touch screen friendly interface capability ‘Android’ could give the iPhone a run for what its worth.

Microsoft has established quite a reputation by domineering the operating system industry and pressuring other players out. It seems that one way the company is maintaining that foothold is by throttling access to its MSDN network, making it difficult for Linux users to download files inside the system.

Though the battle between media protection groups like the RIAA and filesharers on peer-to-peer networks isn’t anything new, it seems that media groups have sank so low that they are now hiring seedy companies like MediaDefender to attack torrent indexing sites’ servers, even if those sites aren’t indexing illegal content. Evidence now seems to show that MediaDefender attacked popular site Revision3, and the FBI is going to get involved.

Touch screen technology on CE devices up till recently have been a mere novelty with nobody taking the technology seriously; that was until the iPhone was released. The iPhone put touch screen technology in the forefront and brought mainstream acceptance as a method of navigating a graphical user interface.

This isn’t new, this has been said before but it’s not exactly clear what Windows 7 will shape up to be when it finally ships. If you are to believe what Microsoft has said that it will "be available three years after the general availability of Vista" then that translates to a late 2009 or early 2010 release. So soon? The only way it could accomplish that is if it is basically Vista (and it is) with little changes.

We’ve been waiting for it and here it is, Dell’s 8.9-inch mini laptop dubbed the “mini-Inspiron” which sadly shares a similar design. I’m not a fan of the Inspiron design, they’re bulky, fat and ugly, I liked the previous designs better like that of the Inspiron M1710 and earlier E-series models. Though, the mini-Inspiron looks… okay.

Recently I wrote about the iCal bugs that were discovered by Rodrigo Carvalho of Core Security Technologies. Core Security Chief Technology Officer Ivan Arce said at the time the company felt that it could not wait for Apple to address this issue.
